Corpus Christi ISD held its 14th annual Companions in Education Recognition and Awards ceremony at the Solomon P. Ortiz Middle Thursday.

The event acknowledges organizations, corporations and people today who help CCISD by fiscal contributions and volunteerism. Awards involved Partnership of the Yr, Partnerships Advocate Award, Local community Position Design & Volunteerism Award, University student Assist for Achievement Award, Assistance Finding out for Accomplishment Award and the James A. Ragan Youth Management Award.

The latter honors a CCISD university student who volunteers and serves in the local community as a lover on behalf of the faculty district.

Miller Substantial University senior Jacob Gonzalez was the recipient of the James A. Ragan Youth Management Award. The award is named for the Corpus Christi native who cofounded the Triumph In excess of Youngsters Cancer Basis soon after he was identified with a type of bone cancer at age 13. Ragan died in 2014 at the age of 20.

Superintendent Roland Hernandez reported Gonzalez deserved the award due to the fact of his initiative to help others just about every working day.

“He is now the president of Do That One Point and co-potential customers a Triumph Above Young children Cancer chapter of 60 university student associates,” Hernandez said. “He has organized many fundraising functions that served young children with cancer and is also a mentor to the university student physique at Miller Higher University. Everyone that is familiar with him is aware of he’ll go the added mile to aid all of his friends.”

Gonzalez stated he is honored to acquire the award and is grateful to know his really hard perform is producing a variation.
