Five Must-See Films Starring Marisa Abela

Marisa Abela

Marisa Abela has become a big name after playing Yasmin Kara-Hanani, a rich college graduate, in the sharp HBO workplace drama Industry. She is also in the Barbie movie by Greta Gerwig and a movie called Rogue Agent. Now, the British actor is expected to play Amy Winehouse in Back to Black, a long-awaited biopic. During auditions, she allegedly wowed director Sam Taylor-Johnson.

1. Industry Season 2

After a debut season that garnered the cutting HBO and BBC drama a splash of infamy for sex and drug-taking sequences, it seemed that Industry would be difficult to outdo itself. But it accomplished exactly that in its second appearance. We witnessed Harper (Myhala Herrold), Yas (Marisa Abela), and Robbie (Harry Lawtey) develop into mid-level Pierpoint workers, abandon morals in the chase of money, and take enough cocaine to douse a small elephant herd over the course of eight episodes.

The two also gave us a peek at what the second season of Industry looks like in the form of a trailer, which you can see below. The trailer is a dark, kinetic and sexy look at the financial world of the show, and it gives us a glimpse at the future of these characters. While details of what Marisa’s character will do in the new season are being kept under wraps, we can’t wait to find out more about her role. In the meantime, we’ll be watching her in HBO’s sharp workplace drama and Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film about Amy Winehouse, though the exact nature of her role is still being kept under wraps.

2. Rogue Agent

Marisa Abela has only been acting for a handful of years, but she’s already a big name in Britain. She starred in the London-set financial thriller Industry and has roles in Sky TV series COBRA and the forthcoming film She Is Love. Abela, who graduated from London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2019, will also be seen in the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

But it wasn’t always her dream to be an actress. In fact, Marisa grew up wanting to be a lawyer. But she soon started rebelling against this and appeared in a few school productions, including playing Juliet in her final year of secondary school. She was then spotted by an agent and signed with a talent management agency.

3. She Is Love

Despite being a low-budget movie, She Is Love has some beautiful cinematography. The solarmovie film begins with shots of the Cornish countryside and beaches as Patricia rides in her boyfriend’s car to get to the hotel. Later, a dazzling shot shows the ocean as she walks along a beach in her bikini. There’s also a lovely scene in which Idris and Patricia pretend to be ghosts in order to scare the other away.

She Is Love also features a handful of great songs from Marisa Abela, who is a talented singer with an eclectic sound. The British actress, who starred in the BBC and HBO drama Industry, was also recently cast as Amy Winehouse in Sam Taylor-Johnson’s upcoming biopic Back to Black. In the first photo released of Abela, she’s a dead-ringer for the tragic singer with her black beehive hair, mole above her lip and flicked eyeliner. She is set to debut in the film in July 2023.

4. Back to Black

Back to Black will chronicle Winehouse’s “vibrant years living in London during the early aughts and her intense journey to fame,” according to a press release. Jack O’Connell and Eddie Marsan are also set to star in the movie, which is expected to be released in 2024.

Abela’s role as Winehouse is one of her biggest projects to date. The 2019 graduate of London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art has had a busy few years, with roles in a slew of TV shows and films. She appeared as a supporting actress in Rogue Agent, and she will soon be seen as the lead in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. She has a starring role in the upcoming season of Industry, as well as a leading role in Sky TV’s upcoming crime thriller Cobra. Follow Abela on Instagram for more.

5. Barbie

Throughout the 123movies film, Barbie uses her enviable sense of style to explore the world around her. One of her most memorable outfits is her classic black-and-white bathing suit, which harkens back to the original Barbie doll’s timeless design.

Another noteworthy item is Barbie’s camper van, which is a nod to Mattel’s Country Camper doll introduced in 1971. The camper van was designed to evoke Barbie’s love of adventure and her spirit of exploration.
