Celebrating 150 years of public education

The Eanes College group has very long had a fondness for school athletics. Baseball was an early favorite. The photograph at top pictures the Eanes School baseball team from about 1935. The Eanes College was regarded for prowess in tutorial competitions, particularly debate and spelling, and as a baseball powerhouse. Students competed in opposition to teams from other “Rural Widespread Schools” all more than Travis County like Merrilltown, Hamilton Pool, Teck, Cox Springs, Bee Cave, Prairie and Maha. The big rival in those people times was Oak Hill. In accordance to an interview with a former Eanes Faculty teacher, carried out at a reunion in the 1970s, “Much delight was gained from beating Oak Hill on a regular basis.”
Just after Westlake Higher School opened in 1969, baseball continued its achievements. The Eanes Heritage Heart has a bumper sticker (remember these?) from the run to a 3AAA condition championship in 1980 (see photograph) and a varsity warmup jacket awarded to Scott Phillips who played for the 1984 condition champion crew (see photograph).
If you have college memorabilia that could include to the story of Eanes, you should contemplate donating objects to the Eanes Record Heart, or allowing for them to be scanned or photographed.
